Stinger Unleashed Sails At The Buck For Hometown Sweep

July 16, 2018

There’s something about doing your hometown show that always turns on the drivers. It’s not the show itself, it’s the people you see there. Your neighbors, friends, people you went to school with, all show up to watch you race. For Zane Rettew and the rest of the Rettew Motorsports team, that was this weekend at the Buck Motorsports Park, located just 4 miles down the road from the shop.

Before the show began, during the introduction ceremonies, the crowd voted Zane Rettew’s Stinger Unleashed the best appearing monster truck in the line-up. From there, we went into time trials racing. After both rounds were complete, Zane Rettew would be the winner, posting a blistering fast 5.35 second run down the track.

While Rettew was out for an interview, the Stinger Unleashed crew worked hard to get the truck’s engine and transmission temperatures back down after making two back-to-back passes. As soon as the temps were low enough, it was time to go side-by-side racing. In the first round, Stinger Unleashed made quick work of Samson, advancing to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, Paul Strong was eliminated in round one after Iron Warrior got a quicker jump on the light.

As Rettew pulled to the line for the finals, he wasn’t about to lose to Iron Warrior, who had already eliminated Master of Disaster. When the light went green, it was all Stinger Unleashed, as Zane pulled ahead and never let off, claiming racing, and his second win of the night.

In freestyle, Paul Strong was out second and gave the fans a great show in the tight confines of the track. Right behind Paul, Zane Rettew would be up third, and came out like a man on a mission. Rettew made easy work of the track, making several big hits before losing high-gear in the transmission while attempting a reverse move. That didn’t stop Stinger Unleashed however, as Rettew would continue to run the truck until it wouldn’t go any longer.

Samson would be the last truck out, and after he was done freestyle, it went into a crowd cheer-off. While Samson, Master of Disaster, and Iron Warrior all got loud cheers, nothing would equal the cheers Rettew received from his hometown crowd, being crowned the freestyle champion, and claiming a clean sweep of the event.
