Pair Of Wins In Seekonk For Rettew Motorsports

July 23, 2018

We’ve been going to Seekonk Speedway for several years as part of their annual thrill show, so when we were called to be a part of their first full monster truck show, we were not going to turn that down.

Before the weekend got started, the team discovered an ignition problem on Stinger Unleashed while unloading on Friday afternoon. After spending some time to put in a new distributor and mag box, the truck was back up and running and ready for two shows the following day.

Come race day, more problems unfortunately plagued Zane Rettew, as a rear-steering problem would cause Stinger Unleashed to miss out on the wheelie contest. Paul Strong, behind the wheel of Master of Disaster, would manage a 3rd place effort.

In racing, both Rettew and Strong were able to advance into the semi-finals, however both drivers would be eliminated in that round.

As freestyle rolled around, Paul Strong set the early pace with a solid run in Master of Disaster, making several solid moves on the large track, including a jump over the bus, followed by a combination move from the cars to the dirt pad. Zane Rettew went out toward the end of the line-up and never let off the throttle until the truck was done. After missing the wheelie contest and losing racing, Rettew’s “angry” side came out; Stinger Unleashed being driven on the ragged edge for the entire 2 minute freestyle with several combination moves and hits on the bus stack. Rettew would hold the lead through the remaining competitors and take home the freestyle win in show one.

As the fans cleared the stands, the thrash was on in the pits, not just at Rettew Motorsports, but all of the teams,  to get the trucks back up and running in the short 2-hour turnaround before the next event. It was a close call, but all of the teams were back together in the short amount of time and out at the pit party before the second show.

The wheelie contest in the second show wasn’t as great as the first for Paul Strong, as he was only able to manage a 5th place spot. Zane Rettew made the most of his efforts and came away with 2nd place.

Moving on to racing, Paul Strong raced through the bracket to earn himself a spot in the championship race against Christopher Sawicki driving Lumberjack. The race was even all the way to the final turn where Strong would pull ahead and take the racing win, adding more hardware to the collection.

As the mechanical gremlins continued, Stinger Unleashed would not be able to freestyle at the second show after losing oil pressure in the racing competition. Paul Strong went out 5th and made a great attack on the course, but came up a little short, landing Master of Disaster in 3rd place.

Next week we move on to one of our favorite stops on the tour, Harrington, DE.
